MODERN SLAVERY STATEMENT 2021

In accordance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 this statement sets out the steps Media Cubs has taken to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking is not taking place in any part of its own business, or in any of its supply chains:
Yellow Jigsaw CIC, of which Media Cubs is a project, is a social enterprise organisation that aims to build the capacity of the not-for-profit sector in the North West (UK) and beyond. As a social enterprise, we ensure that we maximise the social impact we create by investing our surplus into developing our services and supporting the development of new projects that have a social impact at the heart of their mission.
Yellow Jigsaw is a registered Community Interest Company Limited by Guarantee.
Yellow Jigsaw employs two full-time members of staff and a part time member of staff. We use trusted Associates with whom we have an existing long-term relationship – these can be found on our team webpage.
We are governed by a Board of three Directors whose role it is to make sure that we stay true to our social mission and values, set our strategic direction and measure delivery against our strategic objectives. Our Strategic Director, Grace Dyke, and our Media Director, Kirsty Day, oversee the day to day delivery of these objectives.
OUR SUPPLY CHAINS
Media Cubs is committed to ensuring there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in any part of our business and, in so far as possible, to ensuring that our suppliers also take steps to ensure they are free from slavery and trafficking.
Where possible we source from local, known suppliers with whom we have a long-standing relationship, that are social enterprises and have a commitment to goods and services that are socially or environmentally beneficial. So far as possible, we aim to purchase from ethical social enterprise suppliers that are transparent in their dealings and supply chains. We do not source goods from countries where modern forms of slavery are prevalent.
To maintain this, we will make a commitment to due diligence and checking the supply chain of the suppliers we use and vetting their Modern Slavery Statement and/or Policy for compliance to the Act.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
We continually review and update our policies in line with both legislation and best practice. Policies are available to all Media Cubs staff and sessional workers and to contractors, as requested.
Yellow Jigsaw/Media Cubs has several policies in place to ensure that modern slavery does not take place within our business or supply chains, and are available on request.
We are a Living Wage employer, which means that we pay a living wage to all our staff and sessional workers. We ensure that we maintain recruitment processes that meet UK employment laws including right to work and document checks, and checks ensuring minimum working age is adhered to.
All staff and sessional workers have access to policies and procedures this is communicated to new staff at induction and are available electronically.
DUE DILIGENCE AND RISK
We will make a commitment to undertaking due diligence when considering taking on new suppliers, as well as reviewing existing suppliers over the course of the financial year. We identify and mitigate the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking within our business and our supply chain through committing to carrying out due diligence on suppliers through:
Vetting questions related to Modern Slavery Act compliance.
Contracts or agreements which stipulate assurances relating to tackling modern slavery in their own organisation and supply chains.
We will be developing a new due diligence checklist to increase our levels of assurance relating to the sound governance and ethical practices of our partners.
Yellow Jigsaw/Media Cubs believes strongly in due diligence and where it can will make efforts to investigate supply chains where contradiction to the Act may be suspected.
We have conducted a Risk Assessment of existing suppliers to consider aspects where there may be a risk of slavery and human trafficking taking place. This exercise has found very low risk and that at this point no further action is needed. Risk Assessment and due diligence will be followed with new suppliers as set out in this statement.
Currently we have not undertaken any specific training of our staff regarding modern slavery and human trafficking, however, over the coming year staff will work to complete the Open University’s 15-hour course on Modern Slavery.
We will also review whistleblowing and safeguarding concerns related to modern slavery.
Following the Act, we have enabled our staff to understand more about this growing issue by highlighting the Act and guiding them on how to report any suspicions they may come across within business or a personal context.
Developed and shared resources, including summary documents with an overview of the Modern Slavery Act, and links to the Governments Modern Slavery website.
Signposted staff to Governments Modern Slavery website to provide them with useful information on how to recognise different types of slavery, how to spot the signs and details of a telephone helpline.
Included a requirement that everyone reads and acknowledges the iSE modern slavery statement.
We will continuously work to further develop and strengthen our efforts to respect and promote all proclaimed human rights including the right not to be subjected to forced labour, slavery or human trafficking.
This statement has been approved by Yellow Jigsaw’s directors who will review and update it annually.
